Nephrology Fellowship Program - Our People

Our People

Where nephrology leaders learn, grow + stay connected

Our fellowship is powered by people—bright, driven trainees and a dedicated faculty committed to advancing kidney care. At Tufts Medical Center, we prioritize mentorship, collaboration and relationships that last well beyond training.

From day one, our fellows are supported by accessible, engaged faculty who are passionate about teaching. Our faculty members are nationally recognized experts in areas like glomerular disease, dialysis, transplantation and clinical research. They’re not only leaders in their fields—they’re mentors who take the time to know you, guide your goals and champion your growth.

Our current fellows bring a wide range of interests and experiences. Whether they’re leading inpatient consults, designing quality improvement projects or mentoring medical students, they gain the confidence and skills to become leaders in nephrology.

Our alumni have:

  • Led nephrology divisions at major academic medical centers
  • Published research shaping kidney care policy and practice
  • Secured competitive NIH and industry funding
  • Developed new approaches to medical education
  • Built thriving practices in academic, community and hybrid settings

We’re also proud of our accomplished alumni, many of whom stay connected as collaborators, mentors and national thought leaders.

Former fellow spotlight

Congratulations to Shani Shastri, MD, former nephrology fellow, on receiving DaVita’s 2021 Core Value Award for Accountability. As medical director of the UT Southwestern/DaVita Preston Joint Venture Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis Unit, her facility became the designated COVID-19 treatment center for the Dallas area, caring for over 500 COVID-positive patients in a single year.

Dr. Shastri is now an associate professor of internal medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where she also chairs the Nephrology Fellowship Clinical Competency Committee.
