Our fellowship prepares graduates who are:

  • Exceptional clinicians capable of independently managing maternal, fetal and obstetric complications in both inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Confident educators who guide current and future learners
  • Advocates for equitable care in diverse communities
  • Innovators advancing maternal-fetal medicine through research and quality improvement

Program goals

Our fellowship is designed to equip you with the skills, knowledge and confidence to excel in maternal fetal medicine. Fellows will:

  • Deliver full-scope high-risk obstetric training, preparing fellows to manage complex maternal, fetal and obstetric cases independently.
  • Build expertise in prenatal ultrasound, including image acquisition, interpretation and counseling on anomalies and genetic syndromes.
  • Ensure proficiency in prenatal diagnostic procedures and interventions.
  • Support fellows in developing a clinical or research niche, with robust mentorship and opportunities for scholarly productivity.

Why our MFM fellowship is unique

Tufts Medical Center offers a fellowship experience that balances high-volume clinical training, hands-on procedural experience and strong academic and research support:

  • 500+ maternal transfers per year: Our high-volume labor floor gives us unmatched experience in critical care and complex obstetric management.
  • Comprehensive procedural training: Fellows gain hands-on expertise in ultrasound, amniocentesis, CVS and fetal blood sampling. Additional fetal intervention opportunities are available through our collaboration with Boston Children’s Hospital Fetal Care and Surgery Center.
  • Research and scholarly support: Financial and statistical resources are provided for basic, clinical and translational research, including support from the Clinical and Translational Science Institute at Tufts Medical Center.
  • Autonomy with mentorship: Fellows are treated as junior faculty from day one, managing continuity clinic, labor and delivery, and the Perinatal Diagnostic Center, all in a supportive learning environment.
  • Career-ready outcomes: Graduates leave fully prepared to lead clinical programs, run ultrasound units, pursue academic positions and shape the future of maternal-fetal medicine.
