OBGYN Residency - Conferences + Educational Presentations

Conferences + Educational Presentations

Learn, lead + grow through lectures + collaborative learning

Our didactic curriculum is built to support your growth as both a clinician and a leader. Weekly protected education time includes case-based learning, simulation, journal clubs and grand rounds. You’ll also participate in specialty lectures, M&M conferences and wellness sessions, all designed to help you stay sharp, supported and connected throughout your training.

Morning report

Morning report takes place every day with faculty from Generalist, Gynecologic Oncology, Urogynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine in attendance.

The first half-hour focuses on surgical cases, in-house patients and consults presented by the benign gynecology and gynecologic oncology teams. The second half-hour shifts to obstetrics, where the team shares recent deliveries, reviews the active labor board and discusses complex antepartum cases.

These interactive discussions help residents sharpen diagnostic and surgical decision-making skills and serve as excellent preparation for the OB-GYN oral boards.

Tuesday didactics

Tuesday mornings are set aside for dedicated didactic sessions that include formal lectures, journal club and simulation. Topics follow the CREOG Educational Objectives and are mostly led by Tufts Medical Center OB-GYN faculty, with some sessions taught by residents or other departmental leaders.

Each week wraps up with “Meconium Rounds,” a resident-led discussion with program leadership focused on feedback, quality of life and program improvements. Resident input is not only welcomed but often leads to meaningful changes that continue to shape and strengthen the program.

Journal club

Journal club takes place once a month during didactics and is led by a second- or third-year resident. Together with the Education Chief Resident, they choose a timely and relevant article. A faculty member joins the session to guide discussion and provide additional clinical insight.

Teaching conferences

Grand rounds and specialty conferences round out our weekly learning opportunities. Grand Rounds are held every Tuesday morning and feature presentations by Tufts Medical Center faculty, visiting professors and local experts. Morbidity and Mortality conferences occur monthly and focus on complex or challenging cases, with resident-led discussions.

Specialty divisions host their own dedicated teaching time:

  • Gynecologic Oncology: Multidisciplinary Tumor Board meets Tuesday afternoons. Interns present cases for collaborative discussion with Pathology, Radiology and Radiation Oncology.
  • Maternal Fetal Medicine: Perinatal Conference takes place Friday mornings, featuring current fellows, faculty and invited experts.
  • General OBGYN: Offers informal, service-based lectures during gynecology rotations.
  • Pediatric + Adolescent Gynecology: Menstrual Irregularities Conference is held every Monday and led by second-year residents, with a focused review on menstrual disorders and management.

These sessions offer protected time to reflect, learn and collaborate on evidence-based care across the full spectrum of obstetrics and gynecology.
