The Tufts Medicine Administrative Fellowship, headquartered in Boston, MA, offers recent graduates of advanced degree programs a distinctive opportunity to accelerate their leadership trajectory within a dynamic healthcare system. Uniquely positioned within a hybrid corporate and academic medical center (AMC) framework, the program emphasizes experiential learning in healthcare operations, enterprise strategy and systems thinking.

About the fellowship

Aligned with Tufts Medicine’s academic and community-centered mission, this fellowship is designed to attract, cultivate​ and empower the next generation of healthcare leaders. Fellows benefit from individualized mentorship with executive leadership, as well as tailored professional development resources.

Throughout the fellowship, participants will take a hands-on role in high-impact projects related to:

The Tufts Medicine Administrative Fellowship Program is highly competitive, with limited openings each year. The application timeline will be announced soon!

Tufts Medicine is a proud member of the National Council of Administrative Fellowships (NCAF), an organization that coordinates various administrative fellowship programs across the country. NCAF provides a centralized application process through the National Administrative Fellowship Centralized Application Service (NAFCAS). Individuals may apply here: NAFCAS.

Application requirements
  • Completion of a graduate degree in Business Administration, Hospital Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health
  • Prior relevant work experience is preferred but not required 
  • Resume or CV
  • Written statement of  (500-word maximum)
  • Official graduate school transcript
  • 3 letters of recommendation
  • The NAFCAS application includes additional requirements. Apply only through NAFCAS; applications via email or direct mail will not be accepted. 
  • We are not accepting applicants who need to complete a residency or fellowship as a graduation requirement.

Program structure + curriculum

The fellowship is a 13-month, full-time program (July 1, 2026 – July 31, 2027), designed to provide immersive exposure to both the breadth and depth of operations within an integrated health system. While fellows will have the flexibility to pursue individualized interests, they are expected to gain core experience in the following domains:

  • Enterprise strategy and implementation: Exposure to system-wide planning and execution
  • Executive and board governance: Participation in leadership and governance forums
  • Leadership development: Structured training and executive mentorship
  • Financial stewardship: Insight into budgeting, capital planning​ and revenue cycle operations
  • Clinical operations and service line management: Engagement with cross-functional clinical teams
  • Quality and regulatory affairs: Understanding compliance, safety​ and accreditation standards
  • Process improvement: Application of Lean, Six Sigma​ and other performance methodologies

What are the application timelines?

The Tufts Medicine Administrative Fellowship program is highly competitive, with two openings each year. Applications open June 9, 2025, and close on September 26th. New fellows begin in July 2026.

What compensation is offered?

Administrative fellows at Tufts Medicine receive a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package aligned with market standards for early-career healthcare professionals.

How long is the administrative fellowship?

The administrative fellowship is a 13-month program, from July to August. Each year, incoming fellows will benefit from the guidance of graduating fellows for the month of July.

Can those with a clinical background apply for the fellowship?

Yes. We are seeking candidates with graduate degrees in business, healthcare administration or public health with an interest in pursuing careers in healthcare administration. In addition to this experience, a clinical background may, in fact, provide valuable insight for those seeking a career in healthcare administration.

What type of leadership exposure can fellows expect?

Fellows will have direct engagement with senior executives, including C-suite leaders, operational directors​ and clinical chairs across the Tufts Medicine enterprise. This access is designed to provide deep insights into system leadership, decision-making​ and governance.

I am a foreign applicant. Does the Tufts Medicine Fellowship provide work visas?

No, we do not sponsor work visas for Administrative Fellows.
