GME How to Apply

How to Apply, Policies + Resources
We’re focused on giving our residents and fellows the best training and mentorship. What makes us stand out? Even though we’re a smaller academic medical center, our trainees are an essential part of our teams, working together to level up patient care.

Your path to applying for residency or fellowship

Each residency and fellowship program at Tufts Medicine may have its own specific requirements and deadlines, but here’s the general application process:

  1. Find a program: Explore our residency and fellowship programs to find the right fit for your career goals. Each program offers unique training opportunities across Tufts Medicine and our partner institutions.
  2. Get your application token – U.S. medical students should contact their designated Dean's office. International medical students should contact ERAS Support Services at ECFMG. Residents applying for a fellowship through ERAS can request a token directly through AAMC
for a non-refundable $165 fee. Certain residency programs may use ResidencyCAS instead. This one-time access code is used to register on the respective application system.
  3. Register for the application system: Create an account in MyERAS or ResidencyCAS using your token.
  4. Submit your application: Residency applications should be submitted through ERAS or ResidencyCAS. Fellowship applications may be submitted via ERAS, SF Match or directly to the program. Reach out to the program coordinator with any questions.
  5. Foreign medical graduates: Trainees from around the world are welcome. Tufts Medicine sponsors J-1 training visas. Visit the ECFMG website for more information.
  6. Register for the Match: Registering for the Match is separate from applying. Create an account on the NRMP’s R3 System, complete the required steps and pay the registration fee.
  7. Prepare for interviews: Selected applicants will be invited for interviews, which may be virtual or in person. Interviews include meetings with faculty and current trainees and tours of the facilities, if in person. Be ready to discuss your experience, interests and goals.
  8. Ranking and matching: After interviews, submit your program preferences via NRMP. The computer algorithm matches applicants with programs based on mutual preferences. On Match Day, you’ll learn which program you matched into.
