This qualitative and feasibility study will involve the development, distribution, and evaluation of “period kits” for 15-25 pre-menarchal adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) (e.g., autism, Asperger’s syndrome, and Down syndrome) in relieving stress and augmenting preparedness concerning menstruation and other imminent pubertal changes.

Study details
Inclusion Criteria
- Minors under 18 years of age
- Those still expecting a first menstrual period
- Those with a diagnosis of an intellectual or developmental disability
Exclusion Criteria
- Those who do not meet all inclusion criteria
Study Requirements
Enrolled study participants will complete two study visits— the first immediately preceding or following a scheduled medical visit at the Tufts Center for Children with Special Needs, and the second on Zoom— with a two-week period for “period kit” exploration between. Each study visit will involve a brief survey evaluating participants’ sentiments regarding puberty and menstruation.
