In addition to its history of rooting for Boston sports teams, Tufts Medical Center has achieved numerous medical firsts. Over 200 years ago, the foundation of our Medical Center was laid by several compassionate Bostonians, including American patriots Samuel Adams and Paul Revere. In 1796, these public-minded individuals founded the Boston Dispensary, a facility dedicated to caring for the poor. The Dispensary established the first medical clinic, dental clinic, and lung clinic in the United States. By 1918, it had also created the first evening clinic and clinics for well-child visits, preventive health, and nutrition. These milestones reflect our longstanding commitment to pioneering healthcare and serving the community.
