Hematopathology Fellowship

1-year accredited hematopathology fellowship with clinical lab experience

The ACGME-accredited hematopathology fellowship at Tufts Medical Center offers broad, in-depth training across clinical hematology, flow cytometry, cytogenetics, immunopathology, coagulation and laboratory medicine.

This one-year fellowship prepares fellows to work independently as primary diagnosticians and consultants in all areas of hematopathology and clinical laboratory hematology. Fellows develop skills to practice in academic centers, community hospitals, commercial labs or pursue further subspecialty training.

Tufts Medical Center provides a rich variety of cases supported by a state-of-the-art hematology laboratory that performs about one million tests annually. Fellows gain hands-on experience with up to 800 bone marrow cases and around 300 additional consultation cases each year.

  • Graduated responsibility for case sign-out and active involvement in conferences, tumor boards and resident education

  • Opportunities to participate in clinical and translational research alongside other clinical teams

Preparation and support for the American Board of Pathology Hematopathology subspecialty exam is part of the fellowship.

1-year ACGME-accredited hematopathology fellowship providing broad training in clinical and laboratory hematopathology. Fellows gain experience in flow cytometry, cytogenetics, immunopathology, coagulation and laboratory medicine. This training prepares fellows to diagnose complex blood disorders and manage lab operations in academic, community or commercial settings.

Opportunities to participate in clinical and translational research within the pathology and laboratory medicine department. Fellows work with specialists across clinical services to advance the diagnosis and treatment of blood disorders. This research experience builds skills in study design, data analysis and scientific communication, supporting growth as physician-scientists.

1 million laboratory tests are performed annually in a state-of-the-art hematology laboratory, providing fellows with extensive exposure to a high volume of diverse and complex diagnostic cases. The advanced technologies and testing platforms available allow fellows to develop expertise in cutting-edge diagnostic methods, enhancing their skills in interpreting complex hematologic data across a wide range of disorders.
