The Division of General Internal Medicine at Tufts Medical Center offers expert adult primary care services, advanced training in internal medicine and primary care, and conducts cutting-edge research in health literacy, health disparities and patient safety. Our goal is to provide comprehensive healthcare services, prepare the next generation of clinicians and improve the lives of the communities we serve, including the most vulnerable. Our interdisciplinary teams prioritize keeping you as healthy as possible.

Focused on wellness, preventative care and treating the whole person

Our primary care practices provide access to physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, pharmacists, social workers and dedicated administrative staff. We are dedicated to providing our patients with preventive care, wellness check-ups, treatment for various chronic and acute conditions, and referrals to specialists when necessary.

We understand that you are looking for a primary care physician to establish a trusted relationship with. Our practices offer:

  • Access to clinical pharmacists who assist with managing your medications, drug side effects and medication access.

Division research

Research, innovation and discovery are central to our mission. The Division includes the Center for Health Literacy Research and Practice and the Center for Health Equity Research (CHER). Our research investigators include Drs. Chloe Bird, Karen Freund, Amy LeClair, Lisa Quintiliani, Harry Selker, John Wong, Saul Weingart and Michael Paasche-Orlow. 

Training + education

The Internal Medicine residency training program at Tufts Medical Center is a superb choice for those seeking training in internal medicine. The program offers training in general medicine, medical subspecialties, academic medicine and clinical investigation. It is a 3-year categorical program that admits 29 residents per class. The program is based in a moderate-sized academic center, which provides a small, close-knit community environment. Tufts Medical Center is the primary teaching hospital for Tufts University School of Medicine.
