Community Health Education

Join us and take advantage of our wide range of classes, seminars, events and groups that are designed specifically to promote healthier living throughout the community.

We offer courses on a variety of topics aimed at promoting community safety, health and wellness.

We are committed to providing families with information to lead healthier lives through education and support programs. Our community health education classes are conducted by clinical staff, certified childbirth educators, CPR and first aid instructors and other educators. Classes are offered throughout the year.

We offer a variety of classes and attend community events, these are few of our most popular:

Safe Sitter© babysitting training

Designed to prepare students in grades 6-8 to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings or babysitting. The class is filled with fun games and role-playing exercises. Students will use manikins to practice rescue skills like choking rescue and CPR.

Students learn how to practice safety skills, what to do when faced with dangers, how to respond to injuries and illnesses. Students learn tips to manage behavior that will help them stay in control of themselves and the children in their care. Students also learn the ages and stages of child development, as well as practice diapering.

CPR training with the American Heart Association

Many accidents and health emergencies happen at home. Knowing how to administer CPR can help save a life. Classes are also available for childcare workers and other professionals caring for children who need a tested program with certification to meet their employment requirements.

Learn the signs of choking, heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke and other emergencies and develop the rescuer skills you need in our comprehensive CPR classes. All classes are taught by American Heart Association-certified instructors.

First aid and safety with the American Heart Association

Our safety education courses are taught by American Heart Association-certified instructors and focus on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid instruction and training courses. These courses are designed to give community members and healthcare workers skills necessary to help save lives.

Childbirth education

Certified childbirth educators will share information on changes in your body during and after pregnancy as well as what to expect in labor and delivery. Topics addressed include signs and stages of labor, relaxation/breathing techniques, comfort measures for labor and birth and more.

Safe@Home

Safe@Home by Safe Sitter® is a 90-minute program designed for students in grades 4-6 to prepare them to be safe when they are home alone. Students learn how to practice safe habits, how to prevent unsafe situations, and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies. Students are also introduced to the Safe Sitter® First Aid Chart and learn a system to help them assess and respond to injuries and illnesses. The program is designed to prepare students for their first steps towards independence.

Fall prevention

Experiencing a fall is not an inevitable part of aging. Many falls are preventable, and this 1.5 hour class will provide education on what you can do to prevent falls. Physical, behavioral, and environmental risk factors are discussed including medication, managing health conditions, exercise, fear of falling, home safety and more. 

This class is facilitated by a healthcare professional who will provide practical evidence-informed information you can implement to help reduce your risk for falls. Open to adults of all ages and/or their caregivers who are concerned about their fall risk. Living with heart failure

Many people can learn to manage their symptoms and enjoy full lives while living with a chronic condition like heart failure. In this evidence-informed 1.5 hour class, we discuss: 

  • Causes and symptoms of heart failure 
  • Risk factors 
  • Different types of heart failure 
  • How it is diagnosed 

You will learn about treatments and how to manage symptoms, including lifestyle changes, medications, and other interventions. Open to adults of all ages and/or their caregivers who have a diagnosis of heart failure or want to know more about prevention. Childbirth readiness

This three-part series will describe the stages and phases of labor, provide information about comfort techniques and pain management options, and will cover common medical interventions. We will also cover postpartum recovery, parental adjustment, and provide information about local parenting resources. A tour is included during the in-person session.

Breastfeeding basics

This in-person class covers the benefits of breastfeeding, newborn feeding behaviors, breastfeeding positioning, how to tell that your baby is getting enough to eat, and how to overcome common challenges.

Baby care basics

This in-person class is team taught by a local pediatrician and a certified childbirth educator. The class will focus on teaching new parent skills, such as diapering, feeding, and bathing. We will address safe sleep, childhood illnesses, choosing a pediatrician, and other common safety concerns.

Baby's first year

A companion class to Baby Care Basics! Provides information about child development, ways to play, understanding temperament, and more! Baby's First Year is offered remotely via Zoom.
