How we support individuals + families

Levels of care

The staff at High Pointe House includes highly trained experts: physicians board-certified in hospice and palliative care, along with specially trained nurses, social workers, chaplains, aides and volunteers. Together, this team creates individualized care plans tailored to each person, including comprehensive pain management and relief of symptoms related to advanced illness.

We offer different levels of care to meet each individual’s needs and provide families with support and peace of mind. Whether a loved one requires more intensive medical attention, short-term relief for caregivers, or care that can’t be managed at home, our team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide comfort, dignity and expert support.

  • General inpatient care: For individuals requiring acute medical and nursing support to manage pain and other symptoms or receive medications only provided in a hospital, long-term care facility or licensed hospice residence. Medicare and private insurance typically cover this level of care.
  • Routine care: For individuals unable to receive hospice care at home for non-medical reasons. Medicare and insurance usually cover medical costs related to the terminal illness, while the individual or family assumes responsibility for applicable room and board fees.
  • Respite care: Short-term care offered under routine care for up to five days, giving primary caregivers a break to rest or attend important events. This service allows families to have peace of mind knowing their loved one is supported in a safe, comfortable environment.

What is hospice and palliative care?

Hospice care provides specialized support for individuals nearing the end of life. It focuses on comfort, dignity and quality of life rather than curative treatment. Hospice care includes medical, emotional and spiritual support for both individuals and their families, helping manage symptoms, pain and other needs in a home-like environment.

Palliative care is similar but can be provided at any stage of a serious illness. It focuses on relief from pain and symptoms, emotional support and improving quality of life, whether or not someone is receiving treatments aimed at curing the illness. Palliative care can be provided alongside other medical care and helps individuals and families navigate complex healthcare decisions.

What is the difference between hospice at home and a hospice residence?

Hospice at home provides care in the individual’s own home, with visits from nurses, aides, social workers and volunteers. Family members or caregivers provide day-to-day support.

Hospice residence offers care in a home-like setting outside the home, such as High Pointe House, ideal for individuals needing more intensive symptom management or when home care is not feasible. Residents have access to 24-hour skilled care, private suites, amenities and a full support team.
