Dr. Werner is the President of the Tufts Medical Center Physicians Organization and the Louis E. Phaneuf Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Tufts School of Medicine with a joint appointment in Obstetrics & Gynecology and Epidemiology at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University and the Brown School of Public Health. Dr. Werner's research focuses on using pregnancy as a stress test to identify life-long disease risk. She is a national expert on diabetes in pregnancy, preeclampsia and cost-effective practices in obstetrics. She has had funding from the NICHD, the NIDDK, and the American Diabetes Association.
Dr. Werner currently is one of the PI's for the NIDDK funded, GO MOMs study, a large prospective cohort investigation attempting to identify a better way to diagnose gestational diabetes. She is also the site-PI for several grants investigating environmental effects on pregnancy and neonates. She also has several projects aimed at improving post-partum care.
