Intestinal Microbiome in the Immunocompromised

Overview

The intestinal microbiome promotes intestinal integrity, influences nutrition and metabolism and modulates immune and inflammatory responses.

Our research in this area is focused on the role of the intestinal microbiome in:

  • Maintaining intestinal integrity, preventing microbial translocation and subsequent mucosal and systemic immune activation and inflammation in people with HIV/AIDS
  • Maintaining nutrition and metabolism and promoting growth and development in children in resource-limited countries
