Hospice Philosophy + Goals of Care

Hospice is a special concept of care for patients whose illness is no longer responding to curative treatment.

Designed to improve quality of life by offering comfort, personalized service, and a caring community, hospice care is provided by a team of professionals specially trained to provide expert medical care, comprehensive symptom management, and emotional and spiritual support.

Support is also extended to the patient’s family throughout the illness and for at least one year beyond. Hospice care can be provided in the patient’s home, nursing home, hospital, assisted living facility, or at High Pointe House. At the center of hospice is the belief that each of us has the right to die in comfort and with dignity, and that our families will receive the necessary support to allow us to do so. We focus is on caring, not curing. When a patient decides that curative treatment is no longer appropriate or effective, hospice care becomes the compassionate and dignified option.
